Mukesh Ambani said, “JioPhone will make the 2G feature phone obsolete and company is looking to bring 5 million phones to the market a week. Out of the 78 crore phones in India, 50 crore are feature phones that cannot be used for Internet or data usage. The new phone would give “affordable” device to these 50 crore users and “end the digital exclusion in India.”
The company will provide free voice calls and data for Rs 153 (Approx $2.50 USD) per month with Jio Dhan Dhana Dhan plans to JioPhone customers.
The JioPhone comes with TV-Cable that will allows users to connect their JioPhone phone with TV only Smart TVs and CRT TVs to watch live TV. Jio has also announced two recharge packs, one costing Rs 54 (Approx $0.80 USD) that offers a week’s validity while another comes with validity of two days and is priced at Rs 24 (Approx $0.37 USD).
Akash Ambani said, The JioPhone comes with NFC support allow tap and pay solutions with a linked bank account. This will also support UPI payments, and debit and credit card payments, similar to Samsung Pay.
The JioPhone featured with 2.4-inch QVGA display, 4GB internal storage which is expandable and 512MB. It also come with panic button, 2-megapixel rear camera and VGA front camera, FM radio, Bluetooth connectivity and supporting 24 Indian regional languages.
Mukesh Ambani also said that Data is the oxygen of digital life, and no Indian should suffer because of unaffordability. Sadly the vast majority of mobile users are starved of data. This unfairness must end, and Jio is committing to ending it today. To accomplish this, the company needs to deliver on three pillars, connectivity, data affordability, and device affordability. Jio is a data strong network built for the Internet from the ground up. The TRAI speedtest portal has consistently ranked Jio as the clear 4G network leader in coverage, usage, and data speeds.
Our network Jio continues to rapidly expand, in the next 12 months it will cover 99% of the population of country. India’s 4G coverage will be more than its 2G coverage. To meet the need for device affordability, the company realised it would have to release a 4G VoLTE feature phone, as even an entry level smartphone costs between Rs. 3,000 (Approx $47 USD) and Rs. 4,500 (Approx $70 USD), he added.
